COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT
Southpoint Divers of Key West has joined Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary’s family of Blue Star operators, bringing to 34 the number of dive shops committed to promoting responsible and sustainable diving, snorkeling, and fishing in the Florida Keys.
“Joining Blue Star has allowed Southpoint Divers to make strides into the conservation world while taking our recreational divers along with us,” said owner Don McKenzie. “Blue Star is the first door to open and we are proud to step into conservation, cleanup and restoration.”
Family operated since 1991, Southpoint is a PADI 5-star dive center, offering dive classes and daily trips to the Vandenberg wreck and outlying reefs. The sanctuary established Blue Star as a way to recognize diving and fishing operators who take the extra step of educating customers to be environmental stewards, with lessons on how to interact responsibly with natural resources in the Keys. The program includes 19 fishing guides.
