Key West Man Faces Attempted Murder in Stabbing
Key West Police responded to a reported stabbing Sunday morning at a home on Flager Ave. When they arrived on scene, officers found the unconscious victim, 37-year-old Juan Victor Artola-Diaz, bleeding from stab wounds to his back.
Artola-Diaz was transported by Key West Rescue and flown out to Miami in critical condition. As of Monday, he remains in the ICU but has been upgraded to stable condition.
The suspect was on scene and later identified as the victim’s cousin, Elvis Genero Savia Mayorga, 42.
Detectives learned that there had been an altercation, and Savia-Mayorga admitted to “cutting” the victim.
Savia-Mayorga was transported to the police department for questioning and then to the Monroe County Detention Center. He is charged with three felony counts: attempted second degree murder, criminal attempt to solicit or conspire, and possession/use of a weapon.
