Sheriff’s Office employee arrested for DUI
A Sheriff’s Office employee currently attending the Corrections Officer academy was arrested today by Key West Police, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, resisting arrest and refusing to submit to a DUI test.
25 year old Kaneya Mims of Key West was stopped by KWPD just before 4 a.m. on North Roosevelt Boulevard after the officer observed her driving erratically. She reportedly tried to pull away as she was being handcuffed; as she was being transported to jail she reportedly thrashed around in the back seat and, according to the officer, faked a medical issue. She then refused DUI tests.
She was booked into the Monroe County Detention Center. Her continued employment with the Sheriff’s Office is pending a further review of this incident.
Contact the Key West Police Department for further information on this case.
