CLIMATECAST LIVE: LIVE, ONLINE EVENTS WITH UF/IFAS EXTENSION IN FIVE COUNTIES
Gainesville, FL – The Streaming Science project, a program associated with the University of Florida, is excited to announce ClimateCast Live, a groundbreaking series of digital field experiences (DFEs) designed to educate and engage adults in Florida topics relating to climate change and the environment. Adults of all backgrounds, especially those in the featured counties — Sarasota, Escambia, Miami-Dade, Brevard, and Monroe — are invited to attend.
These DFEs are one-hour, live programs on Zoom. Developed by University of Florida Agricultural Education and Communication PhD candidate, SciStarter advisor, and North American Association for Environmental Education CEE-Change Fellow Caroline Nickerson, ClimateCast Live will be conducted in collaboration with UF/IFAS Extension agents and will take participants on a virtual journey through five distinct programs. The program is advised by Dr. Jamie Loizzo.
Each program consists of online, livestreamed programs that combine background information, live demonstrations, and interactive Q&A sessions. The goal is to empower participants with climate change subject matter knowledge and inspire them to take action in their communities in regard to environmental topics, including participation in the citizen science project, ISeeChange.
Nickerson is researching the impacts of this digital field experience as part of her dissertation along with her advisor Dr. Jamie Loizzo. (IRB202300537). Participants who watch the live event will be able to participate in follow-up surveys and interviews related to the impact of the program on their environmental attitudes and learning experiences.
Each one-hour program will focus on a specific county, addressing local climate impacts. The schedule includes the following programs:
- February 26 at 4 PM ET: ClimateCast LIVE: Sarasota on Living Shorelines
- February 27 at 4 PM CT: ClimateCast LIVE: Escambia on Erosion
- February 29 at 4 PM ET: ClimateCast LIVE: Miami-Dade on Trees
- March 4 at 4 PM ET: ClimateCast LIVE: Brevard on Stormwater
- March 5 at 4 PM ET: ClimateCast LIVE: Monroe on Electric Buses
Register for all programs is available on the Streaming Science website.
For those unable to attend the live sessions, registration ensures access to recordings via email. Additionally, recordings will be archived on the Streaming Science webpage, ClimateSmart Floridians course, and other platforms for future reference.
For inquiries, please contact Caroline Nickerson at [email protected].
