Woman arrested for fraud
A 59-year-old Tavernier, Florida woman has been charged with stealing nearly $34,000 from a Key Largo homeowners association.
Peggy Anne West was charged with multiple counts of forgery as well as fraud and larceny among other financial-related crimes.
A Sheriff’s Office investigation revealed that West, a former bookkeeper for the organization, overpaid herself and misused the organization’s credit cards beginning in 2021 for a litany of purchases such as clothes, hotels, and other personal items totaling approximately $33,939.
Warrants were obtained for her arrest and she was arrested on Monday in Orange County, Florida.

Two arrested following underage drinking incident
A man and woman, both of Key Largo, were arrested Monday following an underage drinking incident near a shopping center.
- Byron Danny Jordan, 19, was charged with possession of alcohol while under the age of 21, possession of three grams of marijuana, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
- Jendayi Anaya Joseph, 18, was charged with possession of alcohol while under the age of 21, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The Sheriff’s Office observed a group of approximately five people in a no-trespassing area near the rear of the Tavernier Towne Center property at approximately 2 p.m. Some of those present were under the age of 21 and drinking alcohol. Joseph refused to follow Sheriff’s Office commands to not walk away and to refrain from pouring out alcohol. Both adult suspects were taken to jail.
