Man arrested for discharging firearm in public

An intoxicated 37-year-old Marathon, Florida man was arrested Friday after discharging a firearm in public and fleeing from the Sheriff’s Office. There were no reported serious injuries.

Robert Matthew Phillips was charged with discharging a weapon in public, possession of a firearm while in the commission of a felony, using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, assault, and DUI.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to the area of Eastwind Apartments regarding a shots fired call at approximately 8:15 p.m. The suspect, identified as Phillips, was seen on a bicycle but did not stop when ordered. Phillips fled on the bicycle before he was apprehended. Phillips was shocked with a Taser as he continued to resist arrest. A loaded .40-caliber Glock handgun was found in Phillips’ possession.

A witness stated Phillips threatened to shoot a resident. Another witness stated they saw Phillips fire the gun into the air multiple times. Spent casings found matched those in the gun formerly in Phillips’ possession.


Motorist arrested following traffic stop

A 42-year-old Bradenton, Florida man was arrested Friday for drug-related violations and other charges following a traffic stop on Stock Island.

Jeremiah Eugene Hayes was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle, and not having proper tags on the vehicle.

Hayes was driving a Ford pickup truck on 3rd Avenue at approximately 9:30 p.m. when he was stopped for a traffic violation. He admitted there were narcotics in the vehicle.

Approximately 7.4 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana, and assorted pipes were found.
