Reef Relief Welcomes New Intern

Reef Relief welcomes Conservation Intern Josie LaPrad to their programs. During the Fall term, Josie will help coordinate volunteer events with their marine debris removal projects and storm drain stenciling events. She will also assist with Reef Relief’s Skip the Straw Florida Keys, Protect Your Skin, Protect Our Reefs, and Plastic Free Key West campaigns.

Josie LaPrad graduated from the University of Lynchburg, in Lynchburg, Virginia, in May 2023. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with minors in Environmental Science and Sustainability Studies. In college, Josie participated in coral research in San Salvador, Bahamas. Her time in the Bahamas sparked Josie’s passion for marine life and environmental conservation. She held leadership positions in the Lynchburg Environmental Sustainability Society, which allowed her to get involved in community organizing. Josie has plans to attend graduate school and pursue a career in research and higher education. Josie aims to use her future graduate research to explore the ecological dynamics in coastal regions and their impact on urban communities, with a strong focus on enhancing sustainability and community resilience. Josie is excited to learn more about environmental advocacy specifically relating to coral reefs as well as the operation and impact of nonprofits.
