Barricaded Key Largo man taken into custody

A 44-year-old Key Largo, Florida man was taken into custody at approximately 7 p.m. Monday after barricading himself in a residence. There were no life-threatening injuries.

Jerrick Sumlin, 44, was charged with aggravated assault, domestic battery, and resisting arrest.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to the residence on Janet Place at approximately 10:17 a.m. after Sumlin threatened a 33-year-old female with a shotgun as well as a pocketknife. She fled the residence and subsequently stated Sumlin was also threatening to harm himself.

The Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiation Team worked for the next eight hours to establish communications with Sumlin.

At approximately 7 p.m., Sumlin was taken into custody when he exited the residence.
