Man arrested for attempted murder

An armed 57-year-old Conch Key man high on methamphetamine surrendered to the Sheriff’s Office Wednesday following a brief standoff after he shot at a roommate. There were no life-threatening injuries reported.

Peter Anthony Capurro was charged with attempted murder, shooting into an occupied structure, and improper exhibition of a firearm.

Capurro initially called the Sheriff’s Office to the residence on West Conch Avenue regarding an alleged burglary at approximately 10:45 p.m., however, there was no evidence a burglary occurred.

According to Capurro’s 27-year-old female roommate, Capurro was high on methamphetamine during the above incident. He continued to ingest methamphetamine and make false claims about a non-existent burglar after the Sheriff’s Office left.

Capurro reportedly shot at the roommate with a handgun at approximately 2:30 a.m. She fled the residence and the Sheriff’s Office returned.

Capurro exited the residence after a brief standoff without further incident and was taken to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon. He was then taken to jail.

The Sheriff’s Office recovered the following weapons at the residence:

  • 5.56-caliber rifle
  • .22-caliber rifle
  • 7.62-caliber rifle
  • .357-caliber revolver
  • 9 mm handgun
  • 12-gauge shotgun
  • Assorted ammunition

The Sheriff’s Office obtained a risk protection order Wednesday in order to prevent the weapons from being in the possession of Capurro.
