Deputy arrested for battery

Florida City Police arrested Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Wardell Hanna on a warrant for misdemeanor battery Friday following an Aug. 12, 2023 incident at a car wash parking lot.

According to Florida City Police, Hanna struck a 37-year-old Homestead, Florida male during an argument.

“We will investigate this fully and take appropriate action,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “As always, I am committed to ensuring the community knows all that happens in this agency — good and bad.”

A Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs investigation is pending.

Hanna was hired on Aug. 28, 2018.
