Motorist arrested in stolen vehicle following traffic stop

A 53-year-old Kendall, Florida man was arrested Friday after he was stopped for speeding on U.S. 1 in a stolen vehicle.

Michael Scott Campbell was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, providing a false name to law enforcement, exhibiting a false driver’s license, driving with a suspended license, and defacing a vehicle’s identification number. He was also cited for numerous traffic violations.

Campbell was stopped near Mile Marker 107 at approximately 2 a.m. The tag on the Toyota pickup truck he was driving did not match the vehicle. Campbell then provided a driver’s license that did not belong to him. It was soon discovered the truck’s VIN numbers were defaced and scratched off.

The ensuing investigation showed the truck was reported stolen out of Massachusetts. Campbell subsequently admitted to lying about his identity and confirmed the truck’s stolen status. He was taken to jail.
