Traffic Stops Leads to Drug Bust

A traffic stop on July 11th led to the arrest of an Alabama man and the seizure of a large amount of drugs. The Key West Police Department Special Investigations Unit conducted the stop on Flagler Ave. and Ashby Street for multiple traffic violations.

Officer Tommy Anglin and K9 Jigsaw arrived to assist, and Jigsaw alerted to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle.

The driver, Rinardo Williams, 67, was detained pending the investigation.

Detectives searched Williams’s vehicle and found 110 grams of methamphetamine, nine grams of pressed fentanyl pills as well as drug paraphernalia associated with the packaging and sale of illegal narcotics. The seized drugs have a street value of nearly $13,000.

Detectives also found over $1,500 in suspected proceeds from narcotics sales.

Williams was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking fentanyl, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued several traffic citations and taken to the Monroe County Detention Center.
