Fleeing motorist arrested
A 68-year-old reckless driver from Marathon, Florida was arrested Monday after fleeing from the Sheriff’s Office on U.S. 1.
Edmund Christopher James was charged with reckless driving and failure to yield.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified at approximately 4:45 p.m. of a northbound reckless driver in a white Ford pickup truck on Big Pine Key. The truck was observed driving into oncoming traffic. The driver, later identified as James, refused to stop for Deputies near Mile Marker 37.
James continued northbound with Deputies behind him with their patrol vehicles’ lights and sirens activated for approximately 10 miles until the pickup truck’s tires were successfully spiked near Mile Marker 47.
James was taken into custody without further incident.
Man arrested in stabbing incident
A 55-year-old Key West man was arrested Monday after stabbing another man in the neck at a bus station in Marathon.
Jamaal Tammara Coleman was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. More charges may be pending.
The 39-year-old male victim reported he was at a bus station located at 5585 Overseas Highway when the suspect, later identified as Coleman, asked him for $5 and he declined. A physical altercation ensued and Coleman stabbed or slashed the victim in the throat. The victim was taken to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon.
Coleman was taken to jail.
