Man cited for fish violations

A 47-year-old Homestead, Florida man was given a mandatory notice to appear in court citation Sunday for multiple fish violations. 

Roislan Hernandez was cited for possession of undersized mangrove snapper, possession of undersized mutton snapper, over-the-bag-limit mangrove snapper, failure to keep fish in whole condition, and not possessing a fishing license.

Hernandez was fishing at approximately 3:40 p.m. near the Card Sound Bridge when he was stopped and his catch inspected by Upper Keys Deputy Jason Farr.

Hernandez was found to be in possession of seven and a half undersized mangrove snappers and one undersized mutton snapper.

MCSO assists FWC in relocating crocodile

The Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Lake Road on Plantation Key to assist a trapper with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission with the removal of a crocodile from a resident’s property. 

The crocodile was approximately 10 feet in length and was in the resident’s pool. There were no reported injuries.

The FWC relocated the crocodile without incident.

Man arrested on multiple gun-related charges  

An 18-year-old Stock Island man was arrested Monday for firing a gun during a party in Marathon. There were no reported injuries.

Eric Cassanova Townes was charged with shooting into an occupied residence, improper display of a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, and violation of probation.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to the Trailerama Mobile Home Park at approximately 10:45 p.m. Sunday regarding a shooting. There was a gathering of 30 to 40 mostly young people at a residence. Witnesses stated the suspect, later identified as Townes, discharged a handgun during an altercation outside, striking the residence at least once. 

The Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, and U.S. Border Patrol surrounded the area and Townes was found hiding at a nearby gas station. He was taken to jail. 

Townes has a criminal history that includes previous firearms-related violations.

Man arrested for displaying handgun

A 31-year-old Big Pine Key, Florida man was arrested Monday after displaying a handgun during an altercation at a school parking lot. There were no shots fired and no injuries were reported.

Michael Albert Gonzalez Rio was charged with improper display of a firearm.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to the Lighthouse Christian Academy parking lot at approximately 9 a.m. regarding a verbal dispute between Gonzalez Rio and another man. 

Witnesses stated Gonzalez Rio exited his vehicle while carrying a handgun before leaving the scene. 

Gonzalez Rio was located a short time later and taken into custody without incident.
