Community Foundation to Host Talk on Microfinance & Philanthropy
The Community Foundation of the Florida Keys will host a free talk by Alex Counts at the Tennessee Williams Theatre on Tuesday, March 7 at 3 p.m. There will be a cash bar. A recognized authority in innovative philanthropy, Counts was the long-time CEO and founder of the Grameen Foundation and has been published in the Washington Post, the Stanford Social Innovation Review, and the Chronicle of Philanthropy. He is the author of three books on mission-driven leadership including Small Loans, Big Dreams, a look into how microfinance plays a critical role in reducing the scourge of inequality by enabling underprivileged people to participate creatively in the global economy. In the new 2022 edition, Counts traces the history of microfinance including his own decades-long collaboration with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus and explains how microfinance has evolved around the world. Attendees may have Count sign any of his books which also include Changing the World Without Losing Your Mind and When in Doubt, Ask for More. They will be available for purchase from Key West Island Books.
The event complements the Community Foundation’s 16th Annual Leadership Success Academy, a training for nonprofit board members on March 7-8 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Tennessee Williams Theatre. Counts is one of five expert instructors for the two-day program. Registration is open at cffk.org/lsa at $100 per person.
