Speaker Series Workshop at the Key West Tropical Forest
KEY WEST, Florida Keys – The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden continues its monthly Speaker Series at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2023 in the Toppino Nature Chapel. KeyWest’s Urban Forestry Manager, Karen DeMaria will be speaking on *Preparing for storm- tree pruning *Post storm recovery- pruning damaged trees *Proper pruning *When you need City permit. Karen DeMaria is a member of the City’s Planning Department and oversees the Tree Commission. Together, they work to protect the city’s canopy and ensure that tree trimming and removal is done so that the city can retain its cool, green canopy. The Tree Commission was established by the late City Commissioner Merili McCoy, whose passion was to preserve this island’s native and heritage trees.
Admission for the speaker is free for members, $5 for non-members. All proceeds directly benefit the Garden’s conservation program. Be sure to come early for the Native Plant Sale from 9 a.m.-noon, we offer more than 150 species of butterfly- and bird-attracting native, rare and endangered plants propagated and available in the Botanical Garden Nursery.
