The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County (DOH-Monroe) is conducting the Stock Island Community Health Survey for residents and employees of Stock Island. This survey will help DOH-Monroe better understand the needs of the Stock Island community as it relates to healthy living and the local environment. DOH-Monroe has set a goal for 700 completed surveys by August 31, 2022.

The Stock Island Community Health Survey is an important project for DOH-Monroe. Data from this survey will help DOH-Monroe, in partnership with various agencies and organizations involved with the Stock Island Community, set priorities, and seek additional resources to help this part of the Florida Keys.

This anonymous survey is available in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole. The survey is only 2 pages long and takes most people about 5-10 minutes to complete. Anyone who lives or works on Stock Island, and who is at least 14 years of age, can take the survey online at www.tinyurl.com/healthstockisland.

DOH-Monroe will mail a $5 food voucher and a free bus ticket to thank people for their survey participation. The bus tickets are compliments of the City of Key West Department of Transportation/Key West Transit.  No ID is required to take the survey, and providing a name and address to receive the $5 food voucher and bus ticket is purely optional.

DOH-Monroe has received generous support from many community partners to promote the survey to eligible members of the Stock Island Community. Many Stock Island employers including Lower Keys Medical Center, College of the Florida Keys, the Monroe County Sheriff Office, and Monroe County Public Schools have promoted the survey through blast emails to their employees and by posting flyers in workplace common areas. DOH-Monroe has also worked with the SOS Foundation Food Pantry on Stock Island and the Keys Overnight Temporary Shelter (KOTS) to coordinate opportunities for their clients to complete paper copies of the survey.

DOH-Monroe has also promoted the survey with multiple advertising campaigns. For example, 2 postcard mailers have been sent to Stock Island residents. Bus shelter advertisements have been posted. DOH-Monroe also sponsored the I Love Stock Island Festival will a full-page in their program.

Jennifer Lefelar, Community Health Planner with DOH-Monroe, is coordinating this project under the leadership of Alison Kerr, Public Health Services Manager with DOH-Monroe. This project is funded by a national CDC Health Equity grant that is focused on addressing health disparities. DOH-Monroe selected Stock Island after a needs-based analysis conducted for all of Monroe County.

Results of the Stock Island Community Health Survey will be published later this year.
