OPEN HOUSE June 17th & 18th 11-5
part of I STOCK ISLAND Festival
6810 Front St, Stock Island
Key West Woodworks, a familiar icon of the Florida Keys, has been in the same location for 36 years. When owners, Karen & Jimmy Wray arrived, by bicycle from Tampa, California, Canada… the building was abandoned and derelict. They ran all new electric and plumbing and repaired missing siding. They installed irreplaceably solid floor tools bought when the navy closed its woodworking shop at the Truman Annex. KWWoodworks is a custom sign shop offering carved, etched and gold leaf signage. It is a custom furniture shop, having built doors and windows for many of Key West’s finest houses, as well as serving the art community and the world of yachting.
A large portion of Key West Woodwork’s intrinsic value is its location. The cool breeze running through the shop, water on both sides, the sense of community, There is no other shop like ours. The lofts extend the capacity of the shop and the storage under the saws and plywood racks make it all the more efficient. The electric winches make for easy lifting and storage. The work benches / office / finish room, make for a finely honed studio.
Stock Island ‘the Brooklyn of Key West’ is coming into its Zenith. A space like ours is non-existent, There is no other. It is known for its artistry and craftsmanship. There have been no available commercial spaces in this building for over 30 years, and now, the most premium space, Key West Woodworks, is up for sale. We are selling a prize jewel of Stock Island’s marine/industrial world. It is incredible how many people per day walk by our doors, marveling to see people ‘living the dream’, in the last remaining vestige of old Key West.
