Deputy arrested following domestic incident

An off-duty Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Deputy was arrested by Miami-Dade Police Department Officers on Sunday following an altercation she had with an ex-boyfriend.

Takila Johnson was charged with battery.

“I was disappointed to hear of this matter and it will be fully investigated,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “Whenever something significant happens, even off-duty in another county, regarding the Sheriff’s Office, I want you to hear it from me first.”

The incident occurred at approximately 10 a.m. on Feb. 27, 2022 on the 17900 block of SW 97th Avenue in Miami.

Johnson reportedly bit the victim during an argument, according to the Miami Dade Police Department.

Johnson is currently employed by the Sheriff’s Office pending the criminal investigation and Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs investigation.

Johnson was hired on Feb. 4, 2022.


Body found in Big Pine Key

The body of a 56-year-old woman who died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound was found off Wilder Road on Big Pine Key Monday by a passerby walking his dog.

The woman was identified as Theresa-Dawn Bright of Big Pine Key.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene at approximately 1 p.m.

Foul play is not expected to be a factor in the incident.

Autopsy results are pending.
