Have you heard? Waterfront Playhouse is showing “Clue” the Play, from February 17th-March 5th! The Play is based on the Paramount movie from 1985, which is based on the classic board game that you probably grew up playing with your parents. It is a classic comedic, murder mystery production, and, trust us, you do not want to miss it. It’s got all the characters that you know and love, including Miss Scarlett, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Colonel Mustard, and more! Erin McKenna, who acts as Mrs. White, was able to discuss her experience thus far about the play!

When asked about her role, McKenna says, “I love my role, Mrs. White has a very different personality than I do, so it’s been a challenge, but a fun one at that. I talk a lot with my hands and I like action, whereas Mrs. White is very contained and poised.” She goes on to explain how interesting it is to observe the juxtaposition of the characters, as they’re all so different. Some are frantic, some sexy, some violent, so it makes for a great contrast between all personalities. As for the actors, McKenna was pleased to say that the dynamics are great between all of them. She states, “I have worked with most of them before. It’s so much fun in Key West. I’ve never auditioned in New York, but I can imagine how cutthroat and competitive it can be. Here, it’s way different. People are laid back, supportive, and not intimidating. They are genuinely happy for others when they get a role.” In addition, because of the close knit community, the directors know the right fit for each actor, which makes for a seamless method of casting.

McKenna, believe it or not, does not have much of a history in acting. She is originally a dancer, and has been dancing since she was three. She went to a Performing Arts High School, and went to Hunter College for dance. When she moved to Key West, she found that there were limited opportunities to dance, but took up Burlesque dancing and got involved with Key West Burlesque. Through that, McKenna met the Artistic Director at the Red Barn, Joy Hawkins, who encouraged McKenna to audition for a play. Hawkins casted McKenna in her first role, and she has been acting ever since! She states, “Something so great about Key West is how many different opportunities there are in such a small place. There are so many things to do, so many people to meet, and so many experiences to be had.” When reminiscing on her work as an actor, she emphasized how amazing it is to be back on stage again. She says, “You don’t realize what a gift it is to be able to do what you love until it’s taken away. I’m so happy to be back.”
