Monroe County Commissioner Michelle Coldiron was invited to present on a panel regarding Giving Restoration & Resilience a Chance at the 37th Annual Everglades Coalition Conference held earlier this month at Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key. On the panel, she joined Richard Grosso, Florida Keys Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, Connor Tomlinson, Legislative Assistant to Senator Marco Rubio, and Rev. Houston Cypress, Love the Everglades Movement and Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida

“Once the camel’s nose is under the tent, the tent is exposed,” she said. “We are unified in fighting against expansion into the Everglades because of its delicate nature and importance to the wellbeing of the Florida Keys.”

The Monroe County Board of County Commissioners has a long-standing commitment to restoring and protecting the Everglades, Florida Bay, the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, nearshore waters, and the coral reef. Coldiron highlighted County initiatives that go hand-in-hand with the Everglades restoration process, including the nearshore waters and canal restoration and the vessel and marina pump-out programs. She also spoke on several County resolutions sent to Federal and State legislators over the years on protecting the Everglades.
