Keys History & Discovery Center Presents…History of Keys Tourism Lecture

ISLAMORADA, FL – Keys History & Discovery Center Presents…lecture series continues Wednesday, Nov. 10, with Florida Keys or Bust! A History of Tourism by Cori Convertito, Ph.D., Curator of Key West Arts & Historical Society. Guests can attend in person or participate virtually. Advanced registration is required.

The talk focuses on the development of the Florida Keys as a tourist destination, walking through the islands’ history to discover why they maintain their allure for travelers. Why did tourists visit and how did they get here? Where did they stay and what activities were available? And just who were these tourists?

Registration for virtual participants can be made up to one hour before the start of the lecture. In-person registration closes on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 5 p.m., to ensure adequate seating and appetizers. Doors to the Discovery Center open at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 6 p.m. Cash bar and light appetizers available prior to presentation. Lectures are free for members. For non-members, cost for in-person is $10 and virtual participation is $5.

Keys History & Discovery Center is a world-class museum that preserves and shares the incredible history of our Upper Keys community and explores the unique ecology of the region. The museum’s second floor features a state-of-the-art theater showing documentaries on topics like the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane and the building of Flagler’s Railway, as well as traveling exhibits, and the Jerry Wilkinson Research Library. The center, on the property of the Islander Resort, is open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
