Rescue Tail / Timothy

The Florida Keys SPCA serves all companion animals from mile marker 0 -70 encompassing all of Key West, the Lower and Middle Keys. While the majority of species that enter the doors of our Key West and Marathon Campuses are dogs and cats, we see a variety of domesticated animals each year. Commonly this includes small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters. For every animal in our shelter, whether they crawl, hop, walk, slither or fly, our goal is always to ensure that lifelong happy matches are made with each individual adopter, and each individual animal.
Natalie has been a long-time friend and volunteer, so when she stopped in to visit our Marathon Campus, she wasn’t looking to adopt. That day, however, somehow curiosity got the best of her as she casually asked if we had any rabbits for adoption. We did, and in fact had arguably the most adorable fluffy rabbit waiting for a family to adopt him.
When Natalie laid eyes on him she was infatuated with his good looks and social, friendly personality. Having been found as a stray, Timmy was nursed back to health by our staff and volunteers. With proper care and nutrition he blossomed into a gorgeous rabbit with an outgoing, bouncing personality. He adored people, other animals and easily took to litter box training, making him a perfect house bunny.
So it was that Natalie found herself adopting Timmy and he quickly became the companion for her family, and her dog, that they never knew they needed. Timmy is living the life we dream of for our rabbits. He is spoiled with free roam of the entire house, all the hay and veggies he could ever dream of, and his best friend in the world, their Pomeranian. The interspecies bond between Timmy the rabbit and Tambi the dog is as adorable as it is heartwarming.
