MONROE COUNTY MAYOR MICHELLE COLDIRON APPOINTED TO VICE CHAIR OF SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE, BOARD OF ICG, & RECEIVES ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATION
MONROE COUNTY, FL – Monroe County Mayor Michelle Coldiron was recently appointed as vice chairwoman of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) Water and Environmental Sustainability (WES) Committee and to the board of the Institute for County Government. Coldiron has been a FAC member since being elected to the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners in 2018 and also recently graduated from the Advanced County Commissioner II program at the FAC annual conference in Orlando.
The WES Committee is tasked with developing and recommending an annual statewide legislative platform for counties based on the issue areas under their jurisdiction. The committee considers all state and federal issues related to water and environmental policy, including water quality, quantity and infrastructure, funding issues, interstate issues, waste and pollution, utilities and energy, and resiliency.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be appointed vice-chair of this committee,” said Coldiron. “I look forward to continuing to advocate for Florida Keys water quality issues while on this committee.”
In addition, Coldiron’s Advanced County Commissioner II designation follows the completion of a comprehensive study program. She was also appointed to the Institute for County Government (ICG) board, which oversees the program. The ICG was created to enhance the leadership skills of county officials, facilitate innovative thinking and action, and enable counties to prosper in the 21st century.
“The amount of knowledge and networking exchanged in this program is immeasurable,” Coldiron said. “I’ve had the opportunity to make numerous connections with commissioners across the state, which continues to benefit the well-being of our county.”
The Florida Association of Counties represents the diverse interests of Florida’s counties, especially the importance of protecting home rule – the concept that government closest to the people governs best – through advocacy, education, and collaboration.
