CFK announces new Executive Vice President/ CFO and Vice President of Academic Affairs
KEY WEST, FL, June 29, 2021— The Board of Trustees of The College of the Florida Keys (CFK) approved the promotions of two long-time CFK employees to senior leadership positions at their regular monthly meeting today in Marathon. Dr. Brittany Snyder, who is currently the Vice President of Academic Affairs, will become the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Biology professor Dr. Bill Irwin will succeed Dr. Snyder as the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Both will assume their new positions, which report to the College President, on August 2.
As the Executive Vice President, Dr. Snyder will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other administrators to lead and direct the strategic efforts for the institution’s business affairs. She will oversee the business office, facilities and construction, purchasing, sponsored programs, academic advising services, Talent Acquisition, Development, and Accountability (TADA), and auxiliary services. She will be responsible for all budget development, financial forecasting, and auditing activities of the College. She will also coordinate all efforts and activities relating to the College’s accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Dr. Snyder has worked at CFK for over 18 years. Prior to transitioning into academic leadership, Dr. Snyder was a professor and Department Chairperson in the Business Administration program teaching accounting, finance, and management courses. She also served as Dean of Arts in Sciences. Currently, Dr. Snyder has the honor of serving as the chairperson for the Council of Instructional Affairs of the Florida College System and as a board member for the Key West Chamber of Commerce. She earned her Doctorate in Management and a Master of Science in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Maryland University College.
In Dr. Irwin’s new role as the Vice President of Academic Affairs, he will serve as the College’s Chief Academic Officer, leading all instructional units, academic support services, workforce training, community education, and research. He will be responsible for fostering innovation and continuous quality improvement by focusing on institutional performance data, growth opportunities, and sustainable programs that create an intentional environment to enhance student success.
During Dr. Irwin’s decade-long tenure at CFK, he served as Department Chairperson for Math and Science, Faculty Council President, and Environmental Club advisor. Students selected him twice as the Faculty of the Year and he was nominated for U.S. Professor of the Year. He serves as a board member, advisor, and volunteer for many local organizations and is a regular public speaker on scientific and environmental topics. Prior to working at CFK, Dr. Irwin held executive leadership positions at non-profit educational institutions and for-profit companies in addition to teaching college courses. He holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Biology from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Massachusetts- Amherst.
