Friends of the Key West Library Present Patricia Engel and Mark Powell

The Friends of the Key West Library’s popular speaker series will present local favorite writer Patricia Engel in conversation with author Mark Powell via webinar on March 29, 2021. They will discuss her new book, Infinite Country. All lectures in the 2021 season will be presented online due to the pandemic. Infinite Country has received favorable reviews in national media, including the New York Times and NPR. Her earlier novel, The Veins of the Ocean, won the 2017 Dayton Literary Peace Prize and was named a New York Times Editors’ Choice and a San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of the Year. She is also the author of It’s Not Love, It’s Just Paris, which won the International Latino Book Award, and of Vida, a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Fiction Award and the Young Lions Fiction Award; winner of a Florida Book Award, International Latino Book Award, and Independent Publisher Book Award, and named a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection and a New York Times Notable Book of the Year.

Mark Powell is the author of six novels, including “Small Treasons”, and “Firebird.” He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Bread Loaf and Sewanee Writers’ Conferences. He holds degrees from Yale Divinity  School, the University of South Carolina, and The Citadel. He lives in the mountains of North Carolina, where he teaches at Appalachian State University.
