Man arrested for reckless driving

A 27-year-old Brooklyn, New York man was arrested Wednesday afternoon for recklessly driving a Porsche through parts of Stock Island.

Jovid Khodjimurodov was charged with reckless driving. He was also cited for running a stop sign and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Deputy Ty Torres was stationary at Bernstein Park at 3:15 p.m. when he was notified of a white, convertible Porsche driving erratically on U.S. 1, frightening other drivers. Deputy Torres heard a loud engine roar getting closer. He spotted a white, convertible Porsche on 5th Street. He noticed the only occupant was the driver, later identified as Khodjimurodov.

Deputy Torres watched as Khodjimurodov ignored the stop sign and made a sweeping left turn onto 5th Avenue nearly hitting a newspaper stand on the curb. The Porsche made a similar right turn onto Shrimp Road. The Porsche, which left burnt rubber on the road in both instances, was clearly traveling above the 25 mph speed limit. Deputy Torres noted there was a school bus, a bicyclist and other motorists on the road when the incident occurred.

The Porsche pulled into a hotel parking lot and stopped. Deputy Torres noted the vehicle’s fans were activated to cool the heated engine. He also noted the odor of burnt rubber was overwhelming.

Deputy Torres ordered Khodjimurodov out of the Porsche. When questioned as to why he was driving such a manner, Khodjimurodov replied that he “just wanted to test it out, honestly.” He added that he was “testing the car to its limit by himself, because his girlfriend doesn’t like when he drives recklessly. Khodjimurodov added he intended the vehicle to reach its highest RPM in first and second gear while he was driving.

Khodjimurodov’s girlfriend arrived and took possession of the vehicle.

Khodjimurodov was taken to jail.
