Gun and cocaine found in search warrant

A 71-year-old Big Coppitt Key man was arrested early Thursday morning following a search warrant executed at 9 Ed Swift Road.

The Sheriffs’ Office SWAT Team and Special Investigation Division Detectives, as well as state and federal law enforcement partners, executed the warrant at approximately 6:40 a.m.

Nelson Alvarez-Bermudez was located at the residence. Detectives then searched the residence and seized: 22.7 grams of cocaine individually packaged for sale, $10,182 cash in suspected drug proceeds, a 9mm Beretta handgun, 189 rounds of ammunition and a digital scale.

Alvarez-Bermudez, who is a convicted felon, was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to sell, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Alvarez-Bermudez was taken to jail.
