Woman charged with resisting arrest in child neglect case
A 31-year-old woman was arrested Sunday night after trying to bite a Deputy while resisting arrest.
Danielle Maxine DePierro was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, assault on a law enforcement officer, robbery by sudden snatching without a firearm or weapon, child neglect, resisting arrest with violence and resisting arrest without violence.
Deputy Victor Cristea responded to The Reef at Marathon Resort at approximately 7 p.m. regarding a possible medical issue. He arrived to find several females, including DePierro and a 4-year-old female juvenile. DePierro was intoxicated and had been arguing with other resort patrons for reasons that were not immediately clear. DePierro said she needed to get to her home in Deerfield Beach, Florida, but couldn’t drive her white Dodge Ram pickup truck, because she was too intoxicated. She had slurred speech and had trouble walking and standing without support. The young juvenile was in her care.
Deputy Cristea asked another person present who could care for the child until DePierro sobered up. The person answered that the child’s father was en route to take custody of the child. Meanwhile, DePierro had passed out while attempting to secure the child in a car seat in the pickup truck. The child had hopped out and was on the front seats and then exited the truck. DePierro awoke thinking the child was still in the truck and did not realize the child was not. Deputy Cristea noted DePierro had no control or supervision of the child during the incident.
The child’s father arrived and took legal custody of the juvenile.
DePierro swore at Deputy Cristea and began walking away. Deputy Cristea ordered her to stop. She continued walking and then resisting all attempts Deputy Cristea made at putting her in handcuffs. While in handcuffs and waiting for a backup Deputy to arrive, DePierro attempted to walk away from Deputy Cristea and attempted to bite his arm. She then began kicking at Deputies while they were attempting to put her in a patrol vehicle. DePierro was able to grab Deputy Cristea’s keys from his belt while she resisted during the incident. DePierro continued to pull away from Deputies throughout the incident. When taken to a prisoner transport van, DePierro sat on the ground, went limp and refused to walk to the van. DePierro had to be carried onto the van.
DePierro was taken to jail.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
