Keys History & Discovery Center Presents Online Lecture

Topic Covers Native American Settlement in the Keys

Islamorada – Keys History & Discovery Center has added a new virtual lecture, The Stock Island Site in Context: An Intriguing Native American Settlement Near Key West, on Wednesday, June 10, 6 p.m., with Ryan Harke, archaeologist and Ph.D. candidate at the University of South Florida.

The Stock Island site (8Mo2) is one of the larger midden deposits recorded in the Florida Keys. New radiometric dates and artifacts demonstrate that this site was occupied from circa AD 600 through AD 1700. In this webinar, Ryan will discuss the history of the Stock Island site, and how it fits in with and relates to other Native American settlements in the Keys and on mainland Florida.

To participate in the live online lecture, go to keysdiscovery.com/virtualprograms to register. Instructions for the GoToWebinar platform being utilized are provided. Viewers will be able to interact with the speaker and participate in a Q&A session at the end of the presentation. Access is available via computer or by downloading the mobile app.
