Mucarsel-Powell Announces USDA Plans To Purchase $3 Billion Worth of Product From Local Farmers For Food Banks
Announcement Follows Persistent Requests From Mucarsel-Powell To USDA To Support Local Farms Hurt By COVID-19 Crisis
MIAMI, FL – Today, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26) released the following statement following the decision by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to purchase $3 billion worth of produce, dairy, and meat from local sources:
“At the end of March, I pushed the administration to purchase produce from our local growers. I am glad that the USDA is heeding my advice and purchasing $3 billion worth of produce, dairy, and meat from struggling farmers to send to food banks who need all the help they can get during this health and economic crisis. While I am pleased the administration recognizes that this is much needed in our community, I urge them to act now,” said Mucarsel-Powell.
