Mosquito Control Continues ‘Mission Critical’ Work While Adjusting to Coronavirus Concerns
Effective Immediately, The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District (FKMCD) announces that it has taken the following steps to continue its ‘mission critical’ mosquito control operations in the wake of the Coronavirus Pandemic:
- Effective 5:00pm Tuesday, March 24th, FKMCD’s three facilities in Key Largo, Marathon and Key West will be closed to the general public.
- Ground inspectors will continue their important work of checking for mosquito larvae around residences and businesses, but have been instructed to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and to maintain an adequate ‘social distance’ from members of the public they encounter.
- All aviation staff will remain mission ready to respond to any public health or nuisance threat.
- Administrative staff have eliminated ‘in person’ meetings and are conducting appropriate business via telephone wherever possible.
The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District recognizes its ESSENTIAL role in protecting public health and will continue to fulfill its mission during this critical time.
