A Key West man is heading to prison after pleading out in four criminal cases against him

Monroe County Judge Mark Wilson sentenced Calvin Lee Jr., 28, to 62 months, or just over five years, in state custody to be followed by two years of probation. Assistant State Attorney Christina Cory represented the state. Lee turned himself in last week.

Lee had pleaded no contest to three counts of sale of a controlled substance, two counts of unlawful use of a two-way communications device and one count each of battery, petit theft and resisting arrest without violence.

Three of the cases against him were nearly identical. On July 25, July 26 and August 8, 2017, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office detectives set up recorded and controlled narcotics purchases using confidential informants. In each case through text messages, Lee agreed to sell an informant four Oxycodone pills for $140. Each of the transactions took place on a bicycle path by 12th Street and Flagler Avenue.

A fourth case stemmed from January 29, 2017, when Lee entered the Northside Drive home of his ex-girlfriend without permission and punched her in the face at least twice. He tried to take her purse but she prevented that, but he did take her keys before he left. She gave chase but couldn’t catch him, returned home and called police.

Police went to Lee’s last known address on 15th Court and saw him on the side of the residence. When he saw the officers, he ran but was caught after a short chase. He had the victim’s keys with him when taken into custody.
