Man arrested for burglary
A 30-year-old Columbia Falls, Montana man was arrested early Saturday morning after attempting to enter a home while people were inside.
Drew Robert Lewis was charged with burglary of an occupied structure.
Deputy Joe Torres was first to arrive the residence on the 85000 block of the Old Highway in Islamorada at 3:40 a.m. Sgt. Vaughn O’Keefe and Deputy Victor Morales arrived thereafter. Deputy Torres found a man, later identified as Lewis, sitting on a bench in front of a sliding glass door to the residence. Deputy Torres placed Lewis in custody while Sgt. O’Keefe and Vaughn cleared the rest of the property.
Deputy Torres noted Lewis’ appeared intoxicated and his demeanor was comedic and lackadaisical as he appeared to be taking the situation unusually lightly. Lewis stated he had been drinking and taken some “acid” earlier in the evening.
The victims identified Lewis as the man who attempted to open the sliding glass door and then throw a piece of patio furniture at the glass door in an effort to break it and thus gain entry. The female victim stated she yelled at Lewis and told him to go away multiple times. The property was surrounded by a fence and has no trespassing signs posted.
Lewis was taken to jail.
