May Sands Montessori School Readies for National Celebration
May Sands Montessori, a tuition-free public charter school located at 1400 United Street in Key West Florida, will kick off its Application Season for the 2021 school year by hosting a weeklong Open House during Montessori Education Week, February 24th – 28th. May Sands Montessori School will join more than 5,000 Montessori schools across the U.S. and around the world, including over 200 sponsored by public school districts, in celebrating 112 years of the child-centered educational approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, the first Italian woman physician and life-long educationalist.
The school invites residents of Key West and the Florida Keys to have a firsthand look at its learning environments in action. “Montessori education personalizes learning and guides the growing child toward independence in a nurturing community, and Montessori Education Week is a good opportunity to promote our public charter school.” says school head Lynn Barras. We invite all parents to visit our campus for a tour during the weeklong Open House. No appointment is necessary and Lynn advises parents to contact the school office at (305) 293 – 1400 ext. 53418 for more information.
Parents and professionals alike claim that the Montessori approach is on the cutting edge of today’s school reform movement, which identifies qualities that have been part of Montessori classrooms since 1907. Multi-age groupings, a rich and extensive curriculum implemented with hands-on materials, cross-discipline learning, and care of the global environment are just a few of these innovative characteristics, according to Lynn, all in a school setting with a “family atmosphere.”
