Man arrested after punching Deputy in the face

A 19-year-old Nashville, Tennessee man who struck a Deputy in the face with a closed fist was arrested Saturday.

Noah M. Bostelman was charged two count of battery on a law enforcement officer, one count of battery and resisting arrest with violence.

Lower Keys Deputy Anthony Lopez responded to Oceans Edge Resort & Marina on Stock Island at 9:15 p.m. regarding a battery. 911 Communications Officers noted the suspect was involved in a fight on a dock and then ran into a nearby restaurant. Deputy Lopez entered the Yellowfin Bar & Grill and found a man, later identified as Bostelman, barefoot and sweating profusely. Deputy Lopez asked Bostelman if was involved in a fight and Bostelman walked past him answering in the negative. Deputy Lopez wished to speak to Bostelman further and Deputy Lopez stated the same, but Bostelman continued to walk past Deputy Lopez and then grabbed Deputy Lopez’s wrist. Deputy Lopez then attempted to put Bostelman in a hold, but Bostelman resisted and punched Deputy Lopez in the face. Deputy Lopez took Bostelman to the ground whereupon Bostelman continued to resist with his continued attempts to punch Deputy Lopez.

Deputy Zachary Eason assisted in gaining control of Bostelman. Bostelman struck Deputy Eason in the back of the head. Eventually, Deputy Lopez drew his Taser and shocked Bostelman. Deputies were able to handcuff and detain Bostelman thereafter.

Multiple witnesses identified Bostelman as one of two people involved in an altercation on the docks. One witness stated he and his wife were on the dock telling the two aggressors to be quiet when one of them, whom multiple witnesses identified as Bostelman, ran by and punched him in the face.

Bostelman identified the other suspect as his younger brother and claimed they were “play fighting.” The other suspect was not located.

Bostelman was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island to be medically cleared.

Bostelman was then taken to jail.
