During a recent awards ceremony, Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg honored Officer Jesse Young with a Chief’s Commendation.

Last August, Officer Jesse Young responded to a traffic crash with injuries on Flagler Avenue. Two Monroe County deputies who witnessed the crash stopped to aid the driver and suspected she had been driving under the influence.

Officer Young, during his investigation, determined that there was no alcohol in the victim’s system. He realized she was having a neurological episode and transported her to the emergency room, where she experienced a massive seizure.

“Officer Young’s extensive training and attention to detail meant that the victim had medical care in time to avoid permanent injury and possible death,” said Chief Brandenburg. “His quick response and detection of the underlying problem allowed this woman the medical attention she needed to make a full recovery.”
