Florida Keys – January 16, 2020 – Implementation of the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority’s extensive Capital Improvement Plan continues with upgrades to the Grassy Key transmission main.  The $8.3 Million project, which commences this week, replaces a two-mile portion of 30” pipe between Mile Marker 58 and 60 on the Overseas Highway.  Over time this portion of pipe has begun to succumb to environmental conditions, resulting in interruptions of water service to the Middle Keys.  It has also prevented the Authority from providing optimal pipeline operating pressures and contributed to drawdowns of emergency water storage in the Lower and Middle Keys.

Motorists may expect lane shifts during construction, but no lane closures are planned.  Construction is expected to continue through November 2020.

The Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority continues to invest in infrastructure to ensure reliable delivery of safe, clean, potable water for the residents, businesses, institutions and military facilities of the Florida Keys.  To find out more about the Authority and its Capital Improvement Program go to fkaa.com.
