Citizen’s Police Academy Begins Jan 29th
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a Key West Police Officer, now’s your chance! The Key West Police Department is convening its Citizen’s Police Academy, beginning on January 29th.
Classes are held every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. for 10 weeks.
The Citizen’s Police Academy offers hands-on experience, placing participants in the shoes of a Key West Police Officer to better understand what it’s like to be a law enforcement officer. You’ll learn how a crime scene is unraveled and find out how our detectives tackle crime. You’ll meet our K9 and mounted units and learn why each is essential for addressing the needs of our community. You’ll learn about the tools available to police to keep our residents and visitors safe.
In addition, participants are paired with on-duty officers and ride with them during their shift. This first-hand experience shows just how complex a job it is maintaining the peace and public safety of this island city.
Space is limited, so early registration is recommended. Applications are available on the City’s web site at www.cityofkeywest-fl-gov. For more information, or to reserve a seat, call Lt. Joe Tripp at 305-809-1027.
