Woman Arrested on Further Embezzlement Charges
On Friday, December 27th, the Key West Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit Detectives arrested the former general manager of Sears, Vivian Tapia-Smith for embezzling $254,790 from Sears.
In October of 2018, it was discovered that Tapia-Smith allegedly engaged in a scheme to defraud Sears when she regularly stole nightly deposits of cash. Financial records for Sears confirmed that the cash deposits from January 4, 2018 – March 8, 2018 were never deposited into their bank account.
Tapia-Smith was arrested without incident and transported to the Monroe County Detention Center where she is being help on $100,000 bond.
Tapia-Smith, 38, faces a felony charge for Grand Theft and Organized Fraud.
Tapia-Smith Was arrested earlier this month for allegedly stealing nearly $20,000 from a parent teacher association.
