THE AMERICA’S CUP

Key West, FL – Key West Community Sailing Center will host a talk entitled ‘The America’s Cup: History, Boats and Benefits to Ordinary Sailors’ at its Friday Evening Social on December 13th. The presenter is Dr. Henry DeGroot, Nacra racer and winner of numerous Schooner Wharf Wreckers’ Races and many other races. He is also a serious student of marine technology and the technology of America’s Cup boats in particular.

Henry will discuss the colorful and rich history of the America’s Cup, how the high technology of the Cup has benefited every sailor and how the next America’s Cup will return to the classic principles of sailing. This talk will include information and advice for anyone who is serious about sailing, innovative sailing technology and the directions in which the sport is headed. This talk is for beginning to experienced sailors as well as for those who just admire the beautiful boats. This will be a lively discussion of the history of the Cup, the amazing boats and the technology that creates them, the sailors who sail them and what it all means for the rest of us. Visuals will be included. 

Social, potluck and talk are free and open to the public so bring friends, family and sailing buddies. The Social begins at 6pm and the talk at 6:30. KWCSC is a not-for-profit community sailing center. It provides inexpensive sailing opportunities and education to both youth and adults. These include access to KWCSC’s fleet of boats, private and group lessons, racing opportunities and youth summer camps.
