A Big Pine Key man found with illegal narcotics during a traffic stop is heading to Florida State Prison after pleading no contest to sale of cocaine
KEY WEST, October 17, 2019 – On October 11, Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Mark Jones sentenced Bradley Long, 34, to 24 months followed by 36 months of probation. He also pleaded no contest to violating probation imposed in a previous cocaine case and was sentenced to 24 months in prison, to be served concurrently with the time in the latest case.
A Key West police officer pulled Long over for running a stop sign this past May 11 at Eisenhower Drive and Truman Avenue and other officers, including a K-9 unit, responded as backup. The K-9 officer walked his police dog around Long’s car and the dog “provided a positive alert” for narcotics. A search of the car turned up 58.6 grams of cocaine packed in small plastic bags consistent with street-level drug dealing.
In January 2014, Long pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. Judge Jones placed him on five years of probation. His latest arrest violated that probation.
In the first case, on September 13, 2013, Key West police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration received information that a wanted person was at a residence on Fleming Street. When they went there, Long and the wanted person exited the home and the wanted person was taken into custody. Long remained and told police they could go inside and look around.
“Upon entering, a large bag of white powdery substance was observed in plain view on a shelf. It was apparent [to police] it was cocaine.” Long told police to also check the bathroom. In there, they found “numerous Baggies (over 100) of cocaine which were individually packaged for sale. In addition to the cocaine, a large amount of marijuana was also located,” as were scales and drug paraphernalia.
Overall, there were 332.8 grams of cocaine and 49 grams of marijuana. Long told police it was all his and that he had been selling drugs for several months.
