Woman cited for undersized fish
A 37-year-old Miami Gardens woman was cited Sunday for possessing three undersized Yellowtail Snapper.
Lower Keys Marine Deputy Jon Riggs was on patrol at the Spanish Harbor boat ramp at Mile Marker 34 just east of Big Pine Key when he saw a SeaRay® boat docking. Deputy Riggs asked the captain if the group caught anything and he stated in the affirmative. Deputy Riggs asked to see their cooler. There were numerous fish in the cooler. Deputy Riggs found three undersized Yellowtail Snapper. Deputy Riggs measured the three Yellowtail Snapper. They measured 10 inches. State law mandates harvested Yellowtail Snapper must be at least 12 inches in length.
Nicole Austin Evans stated the Yellowtail Snapper were hers.
Evans was issued a notice to appear in court citation for the violations.
