Man charged in oar attack
A 42-year-old Boot Key Harbor, Marathon liveaboard was arrested Thursday morning after swinging a fiberglass oar at two other liveaboards out in the harbor on June 24.
Leosvel Parrado Cordova was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
The victims, a 40-year-old woman and her boyfriend, a 38-year-old male, met Deputies Daniel Valdes and Garrett Bragg at the harbor where they told them that a man known to them as “Leo” approached them in a dinghy while they were working on their sailboat. Both said the man was yelling and screaming, which they initially took as a joke. He got nearer, however, and swung a fiberglass oar at both of them while yelling things about the female and how he was going “to get” both them.
The oar shattered when it struck the couple’s vessel, missing both people. The fiberglass shrapnel hit the female.
There were no serious injuries reported.
The suspect was later identified as Cordova.
Warrants were issued for his arrest.
He was booked into jail Thursday morning on a $10,000 bail.
