Three men cited for undersized/over-the-bag-limit Hogfish

Two men from Hialeah and another from Miami were issued notice to appear in court citations on Sunday morning after they were found to be in possession of undersized and over the bag limit of Hogfish.

Carlos Bello, 26, of Miami, Jesus De La Caridad Carbonell, 26, of Hialeah, and Lisandro Piloto, 23, also of Hialeah were all issued notices to appear in court.

Deputy Brandon Warren saw three spearfishermen about 11 a.m. near Mile Marker 39. Deputy Warren saw they had a cooler with no lid and further saw what appeared to be Hogfish. Deputy Warren asked if he could inspect their cooler and they agreed.

There were a total of six Hogfish total in the cooler. The smallest was 13 inches and the largest was 15 inches.

The fish were returned to the water.

Hogfish are required to be 16 inches to be harvested in the Florida Keys. Only one fish is allowed per recreational harvester in the Florida Keys.
