Man arrested for lobster violations

 

A 28-year-old Hollywood, Florida man was arrested Saturday afternoon for multiple lobster violations near Duck Key.

 

Peter Arniel Romeo was charged with possession of undersized lobster, out-of-season lobster, speared lobster and harvesting lobster without a measuring device.

 

Middle Keys Marine Deputy Wilfredo Guerra was patrolling in the area of Duck Key at 2:55 p.m. on a Yamaha WaveRunner provided to the Sheriff’s Office by Riva Motorsports & Marine of the Keys. Middle Keys Sgt. Christian Kellenberger as on patrol on land. They observed two men spearfishing along the shoreline at Mile Marker 61. Deputy Guerra asked if they caught any fish. They stated they had not. Sgt. Kellenberger informed Deputy Guerra of a speared lobster on the ground between the shoreline the suspects pickup truck.

 

Deputy Guerra asked if they caught some lobsters or any other wildlife. Romeo stated he speared three lobsters. Romeo advised one lobster was by the pickup truck and the other two were along the shoreline.

 

Deputy Guerra and Sgt. Kellenberger found all three lobsters.

 

Romeo was taken to jail.

 

The other man was not charged.

 

The lobsters were returned to the ocean.
