FKCC Graduates Two Law Enforcement Academies

The graduates of FKCC’s Basic Law Enforcement Academy 69 and Crossover Corrections to Basic Law Enforcement Academy 29 (above) will become law enforcement officers, pending state certification. 

Florida Keys Community College held a graduation ceremony on June 7 for two law enforcement training academies completed at its Upper Keys Center.  A total of 21 cadets—14 in a basic law enforcement academy and seven in a correctional officer crossover to law enforcement academy—successfully completed their respective training program.  Upon passing the state certification exam, each will be eligible to become Florida Law Enforcement Officers.

Cathy Torres, Director of FKCC’s Institute for Public Safety, recognized top performing graduates with special accolades.  Leadership awards were given to the class captains of each academy: Tyler Wright and Jose Masso.  Antonio Ornelas and Jeremiah Romero were recognized for academic achievement.  “Top Gun” honors went to Robert Jordan III.  Stephen Normington and Maritza Saucedo received Physical Fitness awards and the coveted “PIG” awards were presented to Stephen Normington and Andres Arroyo.

FKCC’s law enforcement programs satisfy the training requirements of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.  FKCC is currently accepting applications for three upcoming academies.  A basic law enforcement academy and a correctional officer crossover to law enforcement academy start in August in FKCC’s Upper Keys Center.  FKCC will also begin a basic law enforcement academy at the Key West Campus in January.  For more information about FKCC’s Institute for Public Safety, visit the College’s website at http://www.fkcc.edu/academics/basicrecruit/.
