FDOT to begin closing the Seven Mile Bridge periodically at night starting on June 3

UPDATE: A contractor for FDOT will be doing some work beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday (June 13) that will slow traffic for about an hour on the Seven Mile Bridge. Traffic will remain moving, but expect slow-downs and possible backups. FOR MORE INFORMATION GO TO www.fdotmonroe.com

The Florida Department of Transportation will begin nighttime Seven Mile Bridge closures on June 3 for construction repairs over Moser Channel at Mile Marker 40 to Mile Marker 46.8.

These are highly technical operations conducted from the water. Weather — including wave action, rain, and wind — will all impact safety concerns and therefore: scheduling.

Construction is tentatively set to begin Monday, June 3, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 4.

Other closures thereafter are tentatively scheduled to take place between 11:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. with three expected closures between those times lasting about 30 minutes each.

Traffic will be stopped at the beginning of the bridge in both directions. Only emergency traffic will be allowed on the bridge.

The construction is expected to last six to eight months. MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO GO TO www.fdotmonroe.com

Specific dates for closures will be displayed 48 hours in advance and at www.fdotmonroe.com

Furthermore: FDOT will begin single lane closures/alternating traffic between 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. prior to full bridge closures.

The Sheriff’s Office strongly urges media partners and residents to visit www.fdotmonroe.com before making any traveling plans.
