AMERICA’S BOATING COURSE
The Key West Sail and Power Squadron offers “America’s Boating Course” at the Key West Sail and Power Squadron, 5205 College Road, Stock Island. The 1 1/2 day course will be held Saturday, May 4th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, May 5th from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The America’s Boating Course will give the individual their Florida State Boater’s ID card which is required for anyone who is born after January 1st, 1988 to operate a boat of 10 horsepower or more. This is especially true here since Monroe County leads the nation in boating accidents and fatalities. Guest speakers will be a FWC Officer on Saturday and a NOAA Officer on Sunday. The fee is $65.00 for one or $80.00 for two sharing materials with lunch included on Saturday. For information, call Vince Melendy at 305-296-1126. The course is an introductory course which covers Florida and Federal legal requirements, required safety equipment, boat handling, elementary seamanship, navigation aids, weather and marine radios.
