Key West man has been sentenced to 30 months
A Key West man has been sentenced to 30 months in Florida State Prison to satisfy three drug cases against him.
Meshack Walker, 25, pleaded no contest to two counts of sale of heroin and two counts of unlawful use of a two-way communications device, and one count each of sale of cocaine, possession of cocaine and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Mark Jones imposed the sentence on April 4 with Assistant State Attorney Christine Poist representing the state.
In one case, on December 3, 2017, a Key West police officer was on patrol and saw a Toyota on North Roosevelt Boulevard illegally cross lanes, so he pulled it over. While the officer spoke to Walker, the driver, he smelled marijuana coming from the car and had Walker get out of it. A K-9 officer and dog searched the car and found two grams of marijuana as well as 11 crack rocks weighing 2.8 grams.
In a case from December 14, 2017, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office detectives set up a controlled drug buy using a confidential informant. The informant and Walker agreed Walker would sell the informant $200 worth of heroin and that they would meet at a store on Stock Island. Detectives watched as the deal went down and after Walker drove away, deputies pulled him over and took him into custody for violating terms of conditional release for a past arrest. He was later charged under a warrant signed by Monroe County Judge Peary Fowler.
In another case from the same day, Key West police set up a controlled drug buy using a confidential informant as police conducted surveillance. The informant met Walker on Frances Street, gave Walker $100 and received two crack rocks and a small bag of heroin. Monroe County Judge Mark Wilson signed an arrest warrant for Walker, who was already in jail on previous charges.
